Wolfram releases Problem Generator to create practice problems

Wolfram, creators of Wolfram|Alpha, have launched Wolfram Problem Generator. This tool allows students and teachers to create unlimited, random practice problems and answers in subjects such as elementary math, algebra, statistics and even college calculus. It provides hints and step-by-step solutions when needed to help the student learn.

It can also create printable worksheets and answer sheets for offline work. It includes three difficulty levels for each problem areas, accepts a variety of answer input formats and stores previously answered problems for later review.

Wolfram Problem Generator is now available to all Wolfram|Alpha Pro subscribers; there are no limitations or caps on the number of problems that can be generated. In upcoming releases, Wolfram Problem Generator will expand to cover problems in more areas of math and other core subjects like chemistry, which recently received Step-by-step capabilities in Wolfram|Alpha:

Wolfram launches iOS app for Geography

Wolfram Alpha, the computational search engine has a new iOS app. Wolfram Geography Course Assistant App allows you to compare socioeconomic, demographic, and geographic data for any country in the world.



The app is $4.99 and available for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

This could be a great app for Geography and Social Studies teachers and students.

Wolfram Alpha

Wolfram Alpha is a new web service. It is not a regular search engine like Google, but rather it is a computational knowledge engine. It's makers say it is not meant to be a regular web search engine and is not in competition with search engines like Google and Yahoo.

It doesn't find other web sites for you, it actually will do math computations and aggregate data for you. For example, I entered in New York, New York and it came back with New York City's population, area, location, and more. You can enter dates, towns, math formulas, stock symbols, and more and Wolfram Alpha will calculate the math and gather all kinds of data for you.

I entered my birthdate and got back holiday observances, notable events, time difference from today, daylight information, moon phase, and more.

Entering physics concepts and formulas got me a huge amount of data and allowed me to solve a complex formula. 

It is an interesting concept. I think it will be a very useful educational tool, as it can help students find certain data and information more readily than a standard web search. 

They have example searches, as well as a how-to video on the site to help you use it.
