Gynzy - free embeddable interactive content for teachers

Gynzy is a site that provides high quality interactive content for teachers to use. Teachers can use it on their websites, show it with a projector and/or IWB or even just let the students use them. All of the content is created in cooperation with teachers.

You go to http://www.gynzy.com/teachers/publishers/ and simply embed the resources you like on your website by using the embed code or just open the item in your browser.

Here are some great resources for learning how to use an Interactive WhiteBoard (IWB), and ideas for using it with your students to help them learn.

Here are three main types of Interactive Whiteboards:
SmartBoards http://education.smarttech.com/?WT.ac=homepage_ed

The IWB is the board itself. There is also a projector that projects the image from your computer.


Basic Care and Handling:

• do not use tape or markers on the IWB (you can use Dry Erase markers with the whiteboards used with the Mimio system and on the Eno boards. Do NOT use any markers on the SmartBoards!)
• do not hang anything from the IWB, projector, or other equipment.
• clean the filer of the projector regularly (take filter out, bang over garbage, put back)
• clean the pen tray regularly (wipe with clean, dry cloth)
• turn of the projector when not using (saves the lamp)Remember, this is expensive technology and needs to be handled carefully.Interactive White Boards (IWB), like all other electronics, need careful care, handling and maintenance.

Resolution for the monitor is best at 1024 x 768

Do not use anything on the Smartboard except the pens and erasers for it.
(you can use dry-erase markers on the Eno boards and whiteboards)
Do not tape anything on the Smartboard.
Do not write on the Smartboard with markers.
Keep the pen tray clean (especially from dry-erase and chalk dust)
Clean the filter on the projector regularly.

These simple tips will keep your IWB working for years. If these steps aren't done, you may have a failure of the IWB or Projector which will mean it will be unusable for some time and cost the school money to repair.

Conceptboard - visual collaboration on ideas and documents

I just found out about Conceptboard, a cool visual collaboration tool, from the company itself. Conceptboard is a cloud-based service that works on PCs, laptops, tablets, and more. It is basically on online whiteboard that allows you to create, review and discuss ideas and concepts and you can even upload a document (PDF, PPT, Doc, images) and share, comment, and work on also. You can also just draw and write on it.

It features real-time, and asynchronous collaboration. You can work with other people in real-time, or people can access the work space at different times and comment and work on the project. There is a moderation mode that allows you to use it as a screen cast and presentation tool and there is also a video conferencing tool.

There is a free personal account available, as well as educational accounts for schools. Here are some more examples:

Great Web 2.0 Resources for Students

Penveu - turn any surface into an interactive display

Penveu is a new device that allows you to turn any surface into an interactive display. It's a small, handheld device shaped like a teardrop. It has four buttons, a scroll bar, and a toggle switch for changing between pen and mouse modes.

It can be used up to 40 feet away from the screen. There is no other hardware required and it doesn't require any drivers or software installation and works on any platform. You can also use it to store screenshots on it's internal memory.

It seems like it's a combination of a presentation remote control and interactive white board pen. Ti's wireless and interacts with the image on a flatscreen or a projection on a wall. You can draw directly on the screen or surface, just like on a tablet or IWB, and even gesture in the air to control things and add notes and annotations.

There is a table top box that doubles as the connection and a storage area. It connects to the screen or projector using a VGA connection.

It's less expensive than an IWB and portable. It will be available this coming July. The 8GB education version starts at $500.

This could be very useful for educators and conference presenters who want to have an interactive display without needing other equipment.
