How to Maximize your EdCamp Experience

Edcamps are the "unconference". They are free, attendee led and driven, places to share and learn. Edcamp is a great series of free, unconferences for educators. It is a great method of professional development, being run by teachers, for teachers. The Edcamp model is unique in that attendees set the agenda the morning of the conference and the sessions are not led by one person, but are rather a collaboration of both the facilitator and attendees.

This is a great opportunity to connect, share, teach, learn, and expand their personal learning network. Edcamps are excellent resources for teachers and offer some of the finest professional development around.

To maximize your EdCamp experience, you need to be flexible, willing to participate in discussions, and even look at leading a discussion. Don't feel obligated to stay in one session - if it doesn't meet your needs, go to another one. Take notes, meet new people, learn and share.

EdCamp is coming back to Connecticut this summer. EdCampCT will be held August 10th, 2012. You can register here. (remember, it's FREE!). It will be held at the Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, CT again, which is an absolutely beautiful school.

  I attended the first EdCampCT last year and it was awesome. It is so nice to be able to learn about topics you want to learn about in a relaxed, discussion format. It's also nice to know that if you find a session doesn't meet your needs, you can just get up and go to another one and no one's feelings are hurt because that is the model. I learned and shared my knowledge with others. It was a great day.

Dialogue 21 - free, teacher directed edtech conf in CT

Dialogue 21 is a free, teacher led and directed, educational technology conference. The purpose of the conference is to promote effective technology integration into classrooms to improve teaching and learning. 

Topics will include assistive technologies, Web 2.0 Tools, digital citizenship, cyber bullying, and much more. Participants decide what they want to share and collaborate about. It is an unconference, focusing on discussions and sharing rather than lectures. This is a great format to really learn.

EduCon Philly is coming in January! (educational conference)

EduCon is a unique educational conference that focuses on conversations and innovations for improving education. It is held in Philadelphia, January 27th-29th and you can also participate virtually.

EduCon follows some very interesting guiding principals:

Guiding Principles of EduCon

• Our schools must be inquiry-driven, thoughtful and empowering for all members 
• Our schools must be about co-creating - together with our students - the 21st Century Citizen 
• Technology must serve pedagogy, not the other way around 
• Technology must enable students to research, create, communicate and collaborate 
• Learning can - and must - be networked 

EduCon does not feature "presentations" but rather "conversations", similar to EdCamp, except more planned out ahead of time.

You can also propose a conversation topic that you would like to lead at EduCon.

These guiding principals are also great ideas for all schools and educators to follow.

You can register to attend in person, or to attend virtually here. Registration for in-person attendance is $150 ($100 for Philadelphia schools).

EduCon always receives high marks from attendees. It's an event not to be missed, whether you attend in-person or virtually.

ntcamp - New Teacher Camp - educational conferences

ntcamp is a series of free educational unconferences for new teachers and experienced teachers. The unconference model promotes engaging, interactive professional development for educators.
