Canvas - learning management system - great for e-portfolios

Canvas is a learning management system that is also a great way to have students create e-portfolios. It has many of the same features as other LMSs as well as some unique ones. It has task management, reminders, calendars, audio and video messages, badges, chat, collaborative workspaces, course creation, discussions, a dashboard, mobile apps and much more.

Students can share their e-portfolio's too. Here a link to the Canvas Guides of a video (less than five minutes) walking students through setting up an ePortfolio. There are standard and closed captioned viewing options on this page. PortfolioGen - free online portfolio service for educators

Portfoliogen is a free online service that allows teachers to create online portfolios with their own URL web address. It was developed by teachers and is easy to use. It's a great way to create a professional looking web page that allows you to share your experience, credentials, and qualifications to help you find a job or to share with others.

You page has it's own web address and can include personal information, certifications, photos, your resume, example lesson plans, documents, links to other sites and more. You can customize the design and layout of your web page and it includes a message center where you can communicate with potential employers.

This is a great way for teachers to create an online presence to showcase their talents and qualifications for potential employers.

BlueHarvest - assessment, feedback, portfolio tool

BlueHarvest is a new resource that allows teachers to assess students and provide feedback to them. You can record formative assessments, make written, video and audio comments, upload files and artifacts for portfolios,  text and email feedback, and collect and analyze data on student proficiency.

It also provides a dialogue between teachers, students and parents, allowing them to communicate and discuss assessments and understanding, as well as allowing students to get more detailed feedback and assistance than just a number grade.

It's not free, but very reasonable. $36/year per teacher for nearly unlimited students. That's not bad considering the features. The site has some nice videos that explain the features and how it works in detail.

PS - a web search for BlueHarvest brings you mostly Star Wars and Family Guy returns. Blue Harvest was a fake working title used to hide the 1982 production of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, the third installment of the Star Wars film series and "Blue Harvest" is the hour-long premiere of the sixth season of the FOX series Family Guy, the last episode produced for Season 5, and the first part of the series' trilogy Laugh It Up, Fuzzball. Three Ring - free app to create educational portfolios of student work

Three Ring is a free app for Android or iOS that allows teachers to quickly digitize and organize student work into portfolios. You use the app to create the digital portfolio (take a picture) and then the photos are uploaded to the Three Ring site where you can organize the student work, create digital portfolios, share work and examples, and even use it for formative assessment. You can even tag the photos before you upload for easier organization.

This is a great resource for teachers to use to collect and organize student work.

Using Evernote for ePortfolios - great idea

I'm a huge fan and user of Evernote for, well, everything. I use it for my lesson plans, lesson resources, lesson schedule, meeting notes, class notes, student notes, research, web clippings, recipes, to do lists, project management, and so much more. I share notes with colleagues and students. I can access my notes anywhere on any web enabled device. What I haven't used Evernote for yet is ePortfolios. But I found a teacher who is.

"Evernote as Portfolio - The story of using Evernote as a portfolio in my k-12 school" is a blog written by a teacher in Portland, Oregon who has been working to use e-portfolios in their classroom for the last six years. They are writing this blog to share their work, successes, and obstacles in using Evernote and mobile devices to create e-portfolios with their students.

The blog has great examples of using Evernote for e-portfolios, along with what worked and what didn't. 

This is a great resource for teachers looking to use e-portfolios with their students and wanting an easy to use, free system like Evernote.

OrangeBook - easily create online portfolios of student work

OrangeBook is a pre-beta service that promises to allow teachers to easily create digital portfolios of student work using pictures of the work and then sorting it and making it accessible.

It is not available yet, but they are allowing teachers to sign up to be a part of the initial offering.

Googlios - where free Google tools meet ePortfolios

Googlios is a very informative site from G. Alex Ambrose that shows how free tools from Google can be used to create ePortfolios.


The site has examples of Googlios, how to get started, tips and ideas, suggested readings, resources and more.
