Storify - create engaging social stories

 

Storify is a service that allows you to create a story or collect resources from social media sources. Using the Storify editor you can search social media networks to gather elements, including status updates, photos, or videos, to create a story. You can even add narrative to it. You can then embed and share your story across the web.

This is a great way to gather information from across the web and turn it into a cohesive story. Teachers could use it for lessons and students could use it to create reports and projects on different topics.

Zeodia - transform images into dynamic stories

Zeodia is a site that allows you to take pictures and add time, location and content together to create a video that can tell a story about the picture.

It's free and easy to use. You can add transitions and zoom effects to the photos and add sound.

This is another tool that students and teachers can use for storytelling and creating projects. It might be fun for students to use it to share what they did on vacation, things about their family, or to create a project on a topic for class.

Projeqt is a very interesting site. It allows you to create real-time stories. You can insert live tweets and feeds, interactive maps, audio, video and more. The stories can also be multi-layered, allowing you to create stories inside stories or go deeper into certain parts. 

It works online, so it doesn't matter what device or OS you are using. 

It's also very easy to use. You can embed videos from YouTube or Vimeo, include RSS feeds from your blog, include your Tweets, post pictures from Flickr, and more. 

Projeqt is a great way for teachers or students to tell stories. It can be used for student projects, or even for multimedia lessons. This would be really good for current events, as the content would change with time. 

I've been using it a little this past week and am just starting to really explore how to use it. 

Shidonni - create imaginary worlds, animals, games and more

Shidonni is a site that allows students to create virtual worlds with all kinds of features, like animals and games. Students can also interact with each other. It uses Microsoft Silverlight.

Shidonni can be used in education as a storytelling tool and for creative projects. It's fun and imaginative.

Zooburst - create interactive 3D pop-up books

Zooburst is a fun tool that lets the user create a digital story in a 3D pop up book. There is a free account available, but if you are going to use this with your students a lot, the paid versions offer a huge amount of class management features.

The books are online and all you need is a web browser with Flash. You can use items from their database or upload your own. The books are truly 3D and you can rotate everything around using your mouse. Items can also be clickable, opening up more information about the item. You can share your book via a link or embed them in a web page. You can even use your webcam to create an augmented reality book.

There is a gallery of books that you can view for ideas. There is also a very good support page.

This is good for any grade level and teachers can even use it to create help resources for their students. Use it for presentations as an alternative to PowerPoint. Use it for creative writing.

Zooburst - create your own 3D pop up book online

Zooburst is a site a learned about at TechForum NY last October. It lets you create a 3D pop-up book to tell a story.

It is easy to use, free (with limitations - there are paid versions also), and fun.

Students can use this to tell a story, and be creative and imaginative. The 3D pop-up really brings a story to life and makes it much more fun. You can rotate around the book in 3D space, add your voice to the characters to have them speak, and even use a webcam to add yourself into the story in augmented reality. Very cool!

There is a gallery of stories, so you can search and get some ideas. You can upload your own graphics and images or use some of the 10,000 free images and materials they have on the site. You can share the book by sharing the URL or you can even embed it in a site.

This is a great way to get students creating stories while having fun and being engaged. It can really bring out their creativity. Students can even use it to show their mastery of a topic by creating a tutorial book on that topic.
